Extraordinary Ministers & Readers/Lectors

Readers/Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers Needed

We are currently seeking volunteers to serve as Readers/Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist for all Masses. This critical area of service to our parish is a wonderful way to add to your own weekly devotion while attending Mass. You can set your own preferences for whichever Mass you regularly attend, indicate dates when you are unavailable, and training is provided.  If you think you can offer a time in service, please contact the Nativity Ministry Coordinator at this email.                Thank you so much!

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest and deacon with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. They also select congregants to bring the gifts forward during the Offertory of the Mass.

Some ministers may choose to take the Eucharist to the home bound. (Please contact Deacon Dominick Peloso 650-269-6279 for this.)

Any confirmed Catholic in good standing with the Church may volunteer and be trained for this important ministry.

Readers of the Word / Lectors

Readers join in the entrance procession at Mass, carrying the Book of the Gospels. Lectors proclaim the reading that precede the Gospel and lead the Prayers of the Faithful. They also usually read the announcements at the end of Mass as needed.

To serve as a Reader, a person needs to be a confirmed Catholic in good standing with the Church, have a clear speaking voice and be willing to prepare for the readings before Mass. Lector workbooks are provided so the Readers can prepare the readings ahead of time.

At the Church of the Nativity, we use an automated scheduling system called Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP) to make it easy for volunteers to log in, view scheduled times, request/accept for a sub, trade requests, and update your own schedule and account profile.

For current EM and Reader volunteers, you may go to MSP to check your scheduled mass times.
